    High Standard

    Unless I am mistaken, I did not see a listing for High Standard. In my early years (don't ask) I had a great High Standard .22LR "automatic" as
    we called semis in those days. Wish I had never sold it. I now own a High Standard 1911 .45 ACP, and I find out that it is made
    by Armscor. Not a problem, Ivan informs me that the Armscor warranty will cover it. It is just confusing to think you have one brand
    of firearm, and come to find out that it was made by somebody else. Will it come to pass someday that when asked what brand of 1911
    are you shooting, you have to say, it is an Armscor, High Standard, Kimber, Les Baer, Ruger and Taurus. :<{

    We don't have a separate discussion area for High Standard because the guns are made by Armscor and warranty is by Armscor. Also, there just aren't enough High Standard 1911 owners for there to be any significant discussion if we provided a discussion area just for that brand.

    This is the appropriate discussion area for High Standard.

    There are a number of 1911 brands that are actually made by other companies. In fact, until recently even Springfield Armory 1911s were made in Brazil by Imbel. High Standard is not the only company selling guns under their brand that aren't made by them.

    Hawkmoon,,
    What about Browning? They make a couple of 1911s, a .22 and a .380. But then again, I have not seen many of these except on
    a dealers shelf. ??? I don't want to get on anybody's bad side here.

    You are referring to their scaled-down pistols, the 1911-22 and the 1911-380 (reviewed in our e-zine, by the way). As far as we know, those are made by some subsidiary or affiliate of Browning. But ... those are a special case. Being scaled-down pistols, with a magazine safety, there is NOTHING about them -- not one single part -- that interchanges with a standard 1911. During the 100th anniversary year, Browning sold a set consisting of their scaled-down 1911-22 along with a full-size 1911 in .45 ACP. I have never been able to determine who made the .45, and Browning doesn't seem to offer it any longer.
