Another new guy to the 1911 world

    Hello everyone,

I like to collect military firearms from the thirties through the fifties. I have stuff, as the wife says from everywhere. Now I'm really interested in 1911's and have a real bad itch. I've purchased all the current books and have done a lot of reading before purchasing anything. The only thing I picked up is a 1944 colt 1911 A1, my first and surly not my last.

Glad to be with a great bunch of people to learn from. I don't shoot any of my older items, other than function test, just the modern stuff.

Good luck searching for the rare,

    320th INF

Welcome to the forum. Your books certainly the best investment to make early with this hobby.

Welcome to the forum 320th INF! A pre-46 USGI Colt A1 is my goal. In the meanwhile I've been collecting "poor man's 1911s" Sistema's.

I second Doran's suggestion about books, and my own piece of advice, "Be patient and Be careful."

Were you or are you part of the 80th Division?
Like someone's grandpa used to say "I can sit here quietly and let everyone think I'm stupid, or I can say something and confirm it for them."

When I look at guns I look for what's wrong, who's selling it (know humper's), not enough photos or the most important photos are missing. I also hate the phrase as "original configeration" which means to me it's a "put to gather" from correct parts. I do own a few correct examples of some firearms and some from my first years that are not so much. However, I would never "fix" an incorrect firearm to sell I'll just shoot it.

I read and read and I'm a paranoid gun collector.

The reference to the 320th, was my father-in-law who went from hitting Europe 7days after D-day and made it through the battle of the bulge, liberated concentration camps (has personal photos) and brought back a lot of war trophies, however no firearms. The wife traced his history and it's amazing where he went and still made it home in one piece.

He never spoke to me about the war in the 15 years I knew him. The photos were enough..........

Hi and welcome to our forum from Northern Italy.

Collectible "M1911s GI", full size "SIG Sauers" and "CZ sport pistols" have always been among my favourite guns.
For the range I have owned many different firearms, from bolt action rifles that I still shoot at the range to AKs, from high end "slabsides" to CZs and SIG Sauers; to me nothing like how the CZ fits in your hand, but the P226s are stellar guns that run like clockwork, especially the older West German proofed ones; if one is looking for out-of-the-box accuracy, reliability, and craftsmanship the Sig-Sauer P226 can hardly be beaten.
I collected firearms for years, until I realized that an ever-taller pile of unneeded guns made my life no happier, so recently I decided to thin my collection and enjoy more what I already owned.
After about 39 years of guns-ownership and thousands of rounds of ammunition I have been reloading over the years, I still love shooting at the range every single week.

JMO this is one of the best gun forums among the several I belong to, to me it's quite a learning experience, I hope you'll enjoy your time here.
    Safe shooting.
Originality can't be restored, so put "originality" at the top of a priority list. If JMB didn't put it on the 1911 you don't need it.
