    Nighthawk custom Hi Power

My wife wants to get me a Nighthawk Custom Hi Power as a gift. Aside from the price, is there any input out there regarding the quality of the work? Any downsides or comments? There is also a Jim Garthwaite Custom that I've seen. Any comments on that?

Looks and brand name. Better money spent internally by an expert.

Thanks for the input. After thinking about it, I've come to the same conclusion.

In my experience, you can buy a high dollar pistol, when it comes time to sell, it will fetch high dollar pistol prices.

You can buy an inexpensive pistol and put money in it for upgrades. But when it comes time to sell, you are still selling an inexpensive pistol. The upgrades will not add much to the sale price.

I would recommend buying a Mark III and get exactly what you want done. There are some great Hi Power gunsmiths out there, Garthwaite, Don Williams, AGW Bob Cogan, Novaks, Ted Yost and the list goes on. The only real advantage is a Nighthawk can be had tomorrow on Gun Broker, theres a bunch for sale. You could buy a new hi power and Don Williams Tactical package and be under 2000 for the gun and work. Just my thoughts

Thanks for the reply. Ultimately, that's exactly how I thought it through. The Mark III is waiting at my gun shop for me to pick up. I'd already looked through some of the smiths you mentioned and decided on Don Williams after speaking with him on the phone. I'm not interested in the complete job that Nighthawk does, but just a couple of things, trigger work, extended safety, removing the mag safety and blackout target sights. Maybe bobbing the hammer if I get hammer bite. The blued finish is really beautiful, and I don't want to sinter the front or rear backstraps unless the original grips slip in my hand.
