If they are the same price, definitely the Colt. Pricing seems to be a regional thing. Colts are almost always north of $900 everywhere I have lived the last few years, and the Rugers are generally $300 or so less than a Colt.
"The 1911 was the design, given by God to us through John M. Browning, that represents the epitome of what a killing tool needs to be. It was true in 1911 and it's true now." - Col. Robert Coates commanding, U.S. Marine Corp Special Operations Command Detachment 1 (DET 1)

You probably can't go wrong with either.... Ruger already has most of the custom work done. Quality of parts: the slide and barrel are machined from the same piece of hardened bar stock by the same machine, the frame is cast which of course Ruger does the best casting in the industry. Crisp trigger, easier to swap sights. They got it all fitted together so nicely that it should be good for about 1.5" at 25 yards. Would always be hard to pass up a Colt though, if you already got a 1991, perhaps give a sr1911 a try? See if there is a range nearby where you can rent one.

Both are nice but down here in the SW that would be a nice price on the Colt and a little high on the Ruger if it is a plain SR1911 and not the Night Watchman or something.

My Ruger has been a good pistol for the price. But if I find a Colt for a similar price, it would be an easy choice to pick the Colt.

And now Ruger has the 10mm SR1911 and one can compare that to the Colt Delta in 10mm.

The Colt over the Ruger if at the same price. I had a SR1911, and for the money I gave for it, couldn't have been happier, but someone wanted it more than me, so all I have now are Colt, SA and a Baer.
