1948 Colt Commercial for Argintine Contract?

    Hi All
I have this 1948 Colt with "Republica Argentina Armada Nacional" on the slide. The closest info I could find searching this was a 1941 contract Colt referred to in a thread in this forum dated Oct 2006. The "Republica Argentina Armada Nacional" text is in approximately the same location on the slide but the 1941 contract Colt had "-1941" after Nacional. From what I have read on this forum is that Clawson mentions other Argentine contacts after 1936 but is not specific. I am sure it has been refinished along the way. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards
    Jim

Does the "Republica Argentina Armada Nacional" look like it was applied with a roller? It's exceptionally clean.

Also, when did Colt switch its slide markings from 'Calibre .45' to 'Caliber .45'?
Too many people miss the silver lining because they're expecting gold.

Argentina pantographed those markings. Calibre chgd to Caliber in 1949, I believe.

I don't have access to my ref book at the moment. Chk under the firing pin stop for a serial number to see if different than this frame serial.

I checked the slide and there is not a serial number (just a stamped "C" and maybe a "P") and I was under the impression that Colt discontinued that practice after 1943

1948 too late for a slide serial but sometimes slides and frames get interchanged. Since there's no serial that indicates it could be the original slide.

Mr. Clawson's Commercial Series book shows photos of C237594 shipped to the Argentine Naval Commission in NY on 09 Oct 1948 that look similar to your pistol. He also states between 1948 and 1950 Colt shipped other pistols between serials C223600 and 242200-C to the Commission.
