    Got the 9mm STI Escort!

    Good news, all!
STI has a new family member. As posted previously, I've wanted a quality used 1911 9mm for CCW, and was considering an STI Escort, Kimber Aegis, Colt Defender, or SA EMP. After all the research I decided the STI would be the best choice, but Escorts never appear on ArmsList. I waited with patience, and have just managed to land a very nice, barely used (25 rds) 9mm STI Escort, with 2 mags and all the trimmings. Got the whole package for $950, which I think is a good price for a LNIB Escort. Can't wait for delivery and the chance to shoot it; and I'll post some photos then.

Any guidance on magazines, IWB holsters, or maintenance items specific to the STI Escort would be appreciated!

Congratulations, out of these choices, I think you picked the right one.

    Hello all -

My used (25 rd only) STI Escort arrived this past week! Pics and range report follow:

I fired about 9 different commercial self defense ammo brands, using both magazines. Had some issues with 6 of these. The ones that worked in both mags were Starfire 124gr JHP, Fiocchi 147 gr JHP (not XTP), and Federal HST 124gr JHP. Interesting - the STI magazine actually worked more consistently than the Wilson magazine. I loaded both with 8 rounds, loaded one in the chamber, and then loaded another round in the mag to test each ammo type and magazine for 9-round action. The most common issue was fail to feed/jam,usually the 2nd round (first one in the mag) after the chamber round fired. I noticed for the Wilson mag, the uppermost round was not seating all the way to the rear of the mag even with "thumping" the mag, unlike the STI mag, in which the top round would seat all the way to the "rear" of the mag. Also, had no problem with either mag for the 124gr JHP practice ammo that I reload. All in all, a pleasure to shoot, and the STI is definitely more accurate than I am.

Good news. There's some folklore that it's better for 9mm mags to have a spine in the rear, to stop the rounds from sitting too far back. It makes sense, in theory: it gives the slide a bit more of a run-up to the round, as it starts to return to battery after firing. In practice, well, other factors probably matter more.

Congrats on your pistol. Since it's used, it's definitely worth changing all its springs. I know it's supposed to have fired only 25 rounds, but springs are cheap insurance.
