    Taurus 1911?

Just wanted to pop in the section and see everyone's opinions on a Taurus for my first 1911 purchase. I have fired probably 6 different brands/models, but never owned one. I am looking at the 500-650 range which new puts me at Taurus, Rock Island, Remington R1 standard, Ruger(possibly a left over para). And some used SA from what I can tell. I have never owned a Taurus, but like the looks; however have seen a lot of reviews and reports that concerns me.

So so wanted to see if anyone would go with the Taurus at a value price or an alternate brand at a similar price?

    Anything other than Taurus.

No, I have never owned one. Yes, I have worked on them.

Of the brands of [new] 1911s you mentioned, I'd pick a left-over Para, a Ruger, a Rock-Island, a Remington and a Taurus, in that order. A second hand SA might be a good bet, if it hasn't been tinkered to oblivion.

I really think you could put Tisas either just before or right after the RI, their very well built and price range would be closer to $400 or less.

I don't live in your Country but I know that there are better 1911s out there.
Originality can't be restored, so put "originality" at the top of a priority list. If JMB didn't put it on the 1911 you don't need it.
