Would the box for a 1950's Colt revolver increase its value? It is a shooter grade

Recently bought a 1959 Colt Official Police .38 Spl revolver, 6", stamped Maryland State Police on the back strap, very good shape, but holster wear, maybe 80% blue, locks tight...and just found a box for that exact brand and barrel length of Colt...Of course, not numbered and I am not certain if the box dates from the right era...Seller wants $180 for the box.
Is there any advantage to this?
    Thanks for any help...

I am not a collector so this is opinion only.
I would give a LITTLE extra for a gun in its ORIGINAL box.
I would not pay extra for a made up outfit.
I would not pay any great amount of money for an empty box to assemble a made up outfit with.
The collectors and speculators might disagree.

Be careful, there seems to be a whole industry out there, fabricating 'old' Colt boxes and labels.
Too many people miss the silver lining because they're expecting gold.

Check the bottom of the box for a hand written serial.
