    Custom Colt Officers....HELP!!!!!

Can anyone of you identify the gunsmith who did this custom work. I have never seen the front grip done in this manner, and who ever did this was a master machinist. Don't know why it was done, it does nothing for the grip but it sure looks good.lol Any and all input would be helpful, and as always feel free to post any pictures of your custom Colts.

I see the pistol has a barrel bushing? I was under the impression Officers models were bushingles due to the shortness of the barrel. Am I mistaken in this or are there exceptions out there?

All Colt Officers ACP pistols used a barrel bushing. The Para-Ordnance P12.45 and 12.45 LDA originally used the same bushing setup as Colt, but later changed to a bushingless setup. I believe all other 3-1/2" 1911 don't use a barrel bushing.

The front strap looks like what someone might do to a hand-checkering job that went horribly wrong and had be be machined away. Maybe the intention was to add a silver-soldered checkered insert, but it took too long to arrive and the gun owner liked the gun as-is.

The gun has an aftermarket barrel bushing, a full-length guide rod and the slide has probably been modified for the reverse plug. The trigger, safeties and mainspring housing/funnel are aftermarket, too, the latter probably from Smith & Alexander.

The grips are interesting. Similar grips were common in Colts sold in the 70s, but the Officer's ACP was launched in the 80s and obviously uses shorter panels. Colt abandoned such grips pretty early on in the 80s, around the same time this model first appeared, so these grips, on an Officer's, are not seen very often.
Too many people miss the silver lining because they're expecting gold.

The sights are also aftermarket. The rear sight looks like a Millet. The factory front sight was a narrow tenon, so the slide has been modified to accept a dovetail sight insert, also probably a Millet.

Here's one that appears to be stock, taken from the photo thread in the Colt discussion area:

No doubt a lot of work has been done to this gun, and I like the looks. The grip is another thing, it's slick. I will be putting the grips up, and maybe getting some VZ's or some other panel's that will make a tackier grip. Any suggestions?
