    Good news for Colt

That can only be good news!

    From www.defense.gov:

Colt Defense LLC, West Hartford, Connecticut (15QKN-15-D-0102); and FN America LLC, Columbia, South Carolina (W15QKN-15-D-0072), were awarded a $212,000,000 firm-fixed-price multi-year contract for M4 and M4A1 carbines for the Army and others, with an estimated completion date of Sept. 24, 2020. Bids were solicited via the Internet with six received. Funding and work location will be determined with each order. Army Contracting Command, Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey, is the contracting activity.

Now, we need to see how are those $212m will be split between Colt and FN.

Strange. The U.S. government is in the process of down-sizing the military to the lowest level in decades (to a level many experts believe to be dangerously undermanned and under-equipped), so why would they need 212 BILLION dollars worth of new M4s? Not that I'm unhappy to see Colt get work ... I just don't understand the logic (if there is any) behind the contract.

If I read it right, it is 212 million.

It is possible that the US Army can be acting as the supervising govt. contractor for a Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to a friendly country. In many such contracts the deal to buy guns and other equipment is struck between governments, then the US government assigns whichever branch of the military is more relevant to the specific equipment, to place and supervise the order: for rifles it's the Army, for F-16s it would be the Air Force, etc.

    Maybe.
Too many people miss the silver lining because they're expecting gold.

Well, that 212 millions, not billions. And since when do government decisions make sense?!?!?!
