Besides being a collectable pistol, the 1927 Argentine is a great platform for a custom pistol. There are many out there that are candidates due to being in less than collectible condition. I surely wouldn't advocate using one in very good or better condition.
I bought my first 1927 in 1992 from the Birmingham Pistol Parlor in AL. It was really well used but all matching - including the magazine - and marked "P. N. M." for "Prefectura Nacional Maritima"; the Argentine Coast Guard. The bore is well pitted. I took it to a gunsmith named Ed Banks, one of the premier 1911 men in the country. He replaced the disconnector which was worn, installed combat sights and parkerized it. Sometime later I bought a Colt 9mm slide and Ed converted it to shoot 6 different cartridges by swapping barrels, bushings, recoil springs and magazines. Ed installed Bomar fully adjustable sights on the Colt slide and parkerized it to match the frame.
With the original slide it will shoot .45 ACP and .38/45. With the Colt slide it will fire .30 Mauser, 9mm Luger, 9mm Largo and .38 Super.
Even with the original pitted bore, it is a one ragged hole shooter at 25 yards using both cast and jacketed bullets. 100% reliable, for years it was my bedside pistol. Recently I began using a Sig P-229 in .40 S&W.
This is my first 1927 in .45 ACP after Ed worked his magic.
