The gunsmith I have used for years, Teddy Jacobson (Actions by T) of Sugarland, Texas, is really down on MIM parts, so much so that he recommended against buying a S&W revolver because of the presence of MIM parts. Now, I am considering purchasing a 1911 and am finding many manufacturers have reduced cost by using these parts. Is there any manufacturers that does things the old fashioned way or am I out of luck.

Today most (maybe 98%) of all MIM parts are as good or better than their machined counterparts, IMHO.
One either trusts the manufacturer or not it is a choice.
I was at a plant two weeks ago that makes assemblies for jet engines, some include MIM parts, they cannot afford anything to break inside a jet engine.

If you buy a pistol made by a custom gunsmith, you can get one with no MIM parts if you're willing to pay for it. Of the mass-produced brands, Colt uses fewer MIM parts than anyone else. And you can buy a 1991 series Colt for well under $1,000.
