    Icon17 Remington R1 test

Spent the day in Columbus,Oh. with my son-in-law and brand new Rem. Oiled it up(it was brand new!!) before we went to the range and it shot beautifullly. No malfunctions at all. Loved the short trigger on it. The barrel bushing was very tight to the sliide and to the barrel. May have to get one.The short trigger Really felt good, for a short squatty hand. Better than my long trigger on mine. Knew I needed one, just haven't done it yet.Overall, the Remington is one good pistol.

For the original poster, did you get the chance to see the internals of the pistol? Remington has been shipping some pistols with a badly machined frame, at the area where the barrel meets the frame when it is unlocked, otherwise known as the bow-tie area. It would be interesting to know if they've fixed this issue or not in recent production.

This is the area in question; the angled cut at the top of the VIS:

I've read about this in another forum.
When I looked at one in a LGS and mentioned it to the employee he wasn't aware of the problem so he detail stripped it. I can't remember if the angle cut was there, but the relief cut that leaves the bow tie proud was not.
The concern I've read about is that with out a pronounced bow tie the lower barrel lugs could contact the vertical impact surface, possibly breaking them.
    Respects, Pedro.

The angle "cut" in the pic above removes support from the upper part of the barrel feet (or lower lugs)l causing the lower part of the feet to take all the stress.

Over time, that will enhance the probability of the feet shearing off.

I believe that it's a worse condition than the absence of the bow tie cut would be.

We would be interested in finding out if your "new" R1 has that angled cut or not.

    Thanks!
