Here we go again, coalition is pushing for ... smart guns

Here we go again. The antigunners coalition CONECT (Congregations Organized for a New Connecticut), organized a press conference in Bridgeport, CT, today to promote their agenda. Their suggestions: gun manufacturers should tighten their distribution systems and should invest in smart gun technologies.

Time for a letter to the editor of my local bird cage liner.

    Questions:

    1. There are police departments (or chiefs) backing this. Are they proposing to issue "smart" guns to their officers -- or only to the rest of us?
    2. If the manufacturers decline to fall for this, will police departments stop buying new guns?
    3. I believe cars kill a lot more people daily and annually than guns. Why aren't they pushing for "smart" cars, and breathalyzer interlocks on ALL cars from the factory?

Baseball bats kill more people than guns, too, so here's an idea (I scare myself sometimes): how about introducing a register of professional and college baseball players, give them a special ring, registered to them personally, and modify baseball bats with a battery and a G-force accelerometer, so if someone swings a bat without wearing the ring, they get an electric shock..?
Too many people miss the silver lining because they're expecting gold.
