A word about the photo threads

    Folks, we need to talk.

Within each manufacturer's discussion area we have a sticky thread for posting photos of your pistols. These threads are not for discussion and they are not for general interest ... they are for showing off your pistol or pistols. In other words, they are for "glamour" shots, or "eye candy" purposes.

Recently, we have noticed some people posting in the photo threads pictures of targets. Not the pistol resting on a fired target ... just a target. These are often followed by some narrative about how well the gun shoots. We are going through the photo threads to remove these, because that's NOT what the photo threads are for. If you want to show off your targets and discuss how well your pistol shoots, by all means start your own thread or jump into another discussion thread on the topic of accuracy ... but please DO NOT use the photo threads for posting anything other than photos.

On a related note, in going through the photo threads to clean them up we are also encountering some posts that no longer display a photo. The reason is that the owner has either deleted the photo from his or her photo hosting site, or moved it so the link is no longer valid. PLEASE! Don't post a photo unless you are going to leave it in place on your photo hosting site. In our opinion, it's just plain rude to post a link to a photo and then remove the photo without going back to remove the post linking to it.

It takes time to go through the larger photo threads to clean them up. If we find a post that no longer displays a photo, we can't contact each individual member to ask if they intended to delete a photo or if they want to restore or edit the link. When our editing elves find such posts ... they're history. We don't like having to be hard-nosed, but it's the only practical approach to keeping the photo threads "clean" for their intended purpose, which is to allow forum members to look at a gallery of nice photos of nice 1911s.

Our moderators are not paid for the work they do to keep this forum running. I'm sure they would all appreciate it if you would refrain from doing things that create more work for them.

    Thank you.
