The most worthless accessory in the M1911 world

Yesterday, a friend brought this to my attention.

This must be the most worthless accessory in the 1911 world. You loose all the holsters you have, it changes the grip, since it adds a front strap, it leaves the plunger tube exposed, and from what I see it also adds width to the grip. All this for what? To gain a light rail?!?!

But it is includes the word "tactical" in its name, so a lot of armchair commandos will buy it!!!!

    Good Lord!

Here in North Carolina, we call that 'Going around your elbow to scratch your behind'. I gotta agree with you John....and I bet it isn't cheap either.

    1911 Instant Rail Adaptor

Not sure if this was posted before or not (didn't see it with a quick search) but this turns any standard 1911 into a tactical style rail pistol.

Granted it's not exactly like a railed 1911 but...
For $50 it's kinda tempting because, well, just because...

Wow....that is one ugly looking rig. Hope I never see on in person.

I just merged a couple of threads, both showing the same, erm, accessory.

On top of the rest of the issues it creates, that John outlines... it also makes your serial number invisible, since it completely covers up the right side of the frame! I think there are a few places around the world where people might not appreciate this.

There are far easier ways to put a rail on a 1911, if you really want one. And much more 'instant, too. Google 'Ariete magnetic rail' to see what I mean.
Too many people miss the silver lining because they're expecting gold.

That IS ugly and a horrible dirt trap to boot! I haven't figured out why people want a rail on a 1911 yet. Yeah, I know, it's a place to hang a light. I haven't figured out why people want a light on a 1911 either. You get where I'm going so you can probably imagine how I feel about "night" sights even though I have a 3" with night sights on it - it came that way. I also have a gun with a rail on it but it's not one of my 1911's. (Personal preference and I know, I'm old fashioned about all of this.)

I have no use for such an item, however I am sure someone will really like to have it and will rave about how well it works for them. Like jblackfish said, "personal preference." It goes with the saying: "Make it and 50,000 will buy it!"
