Well, there is a difference. The 1911 cycles by the cartridge firing in the chamber, and exerting a forward thrust on the barrel, and a rearward thrust against the breech face. When the bullet exits, the slide continues on its own by the momentum imparted by the event. That's pretty hard to do by hand cycling. Shoot when you can, and note how and what.
