You guys are making me nervous re: Taurus

I have a 18 month old PT 1911 stainless that I have shot very little. The 400 rds or so that have been put through this gun have functioned just fine. Even my lead Semi wad cutter reloads cycle perfectly.

All these horror stories re: Taurus lack of interest in their customers after the sale make me think I should send this gun down the line at the next gun show before something breaks and I'm stuck.

I have an older Norinco that also shoots good and runs fine and the only part I have had to replace has been the slide stop....because it wouldn't lock the slide open after the last round. A standard replacement part from Brownells fit that Chinese gun and the slide locks open every time now. No fitting, grinding or filing needed.

It sounds like a PT 1911 is a little difficult to keep running. Do I need to sell?????

It sounds like your PT1911 is doing fine; some of these guns last a long time without problems. Just remember, on the internet, you mostly hear the bad and the ugly, not the good. ....I recommend you go to the following forum - TaurusArmed.net, there you will find the good, bad, and the ugly. Review what they have to say and ask questions and then make your decision on to sell or not sell. .....There are those who swear by the taurus and there are those who have had bad experiences and swear at them.

I had one in 9mm that shot just fine (albeit 7" low at 15 yards). When I called Taurus about the problem, the sent a new front sight in the mail and I had it in 4 days. My experience with their CS wasn't bad at all...the pistol still shot too low so I decided to trade it....and got almost nothing for it. ....the little money I got plus allot more netted me a Springfield Loaded Target in 9mm and that made me very, very happy.
Would I ever buy a Taurus again?........probably not. IMO that pistol never should have left the factory and that tells me something about the company.

I've had my PT1911 for several years now and no issues, either. About 5k through it, mostly my reloads. When I first picked it up, I was sure I would need to refinish it and I felt the factory finish was thin. I'm still waiting.

The only mod I've made to this gun is night sights.

If the pistol runs i wouldn't worry about it. Also it is a 1911 not one of their poly pistols, and with all the aftermarket parts you can replace anything you want/need to.

...assuming all parts conform to 1911 specs... which hasn't been everyone's experience, it seems, particularly when it comes to the innards of the slide (extractor, firing pin safety parts, etc).
Too many people miss the silver lining because they're expecting gold.

+1 on this. Don't expect to be able to replace/ swap any old part....it doesn't happen with this pistol ie...extractor.

I have seen many PT 1911's that have had just about every part replaced, fire control group, safties and yes even the extractor. The Ed Brown extractors have been reported to hold the firing pin plunger in place. That beeing said like any 1911 the parts will have to be fit.

Except that there seem to be many parts and dimensions (most critical) on the PT1911's that aren't to spec; I won't even work on one.

Due to quality issues with Taurus revolvers I've had a good deal of discussions with Taurus customer service. I'll tell you that Taurus is genuinely interested in your happiness and in keeping your PT1911 running well. Frankly I've stayed away from Taurus pistols due to the issues experienced with revolvers. But frankly it is tough to mess up a well made 1911 and from others here I think the PT1911 is a decent pistol. I would keep it and shoot it.
