2 problems out of 5 pistols is totally unacceptable and a very serious problem.Originally Posted by sandshark

They told me it would void the warranty if I removed the firing pin block and extractor. LOL, really Taurus?
Occasionally we do hear similar remarks about Taurus' version of Colt's 'series 80' firing pin safety system. In a Colt, after removing the firing pin stop, the firing pin and its spring, you need to move the extractor backwards by only a fraction, which releases the plunger and its spring.
Is this how Taurus makes its own system, or does it do it a-la Kimber, i.e. by removing the components from the top, after removing the rear sight?
Too many people miss the silver lining because they're expecting gold.

I can't confirm but I think Taurus stakes their firing pin stop rather than fitting them. I can't see another reason why the firing pin stop feels jammed in there. It's also possible that the firing pin stop is locked in place by the rear sight. I have two Kimbers and have never had to remove the rear sight to remove the firing pin stop or firing pin. The Kimbers are way higher quality as well.Originally Posted by Spyros

I have removed the firing pin stop to replace a broken extractor which Taurus sent 3 extractors free of charge. Now to remove FPS i did need a brass punch to tap it out, once out i filed the dimples down on the FPS which i believe are from the molding process. once the dimples are file down a little, the FPS removes as easy as any another manufacturers FPS.
I appreciate your post OSO1964 even if it is a few weeks older, it helped me fix a friends troubles.
Don't own a Taurus 1911 but have 2 of their other autos (9mm and .45) bought new, and 2 of their revolvers (.357) bought used.
Haven't had any issues with any of them.
