By "left" do you mean it was left at a gun store that closed...like out of business? Sorry, but I'm not understanding the "weapon was left and then taken"Originally Posted by Felix3544
Have you contacted the local ATF office? If the gun shop closed they are required to transfer their records to the ATF. Don't leave it up to the PD, I'd make the call also. Hope you get it back, good luck!
I left the weapon at the gun store to be sold for me. The gun store went out of business. And I did also report it to the ATF. The ATF couldn't care less, said to report it to the police, which of course I had already did.
ATF should have an idea what happened to the owner. If the gun is/was on consignment, it's still yours and its your responsibility. If the PD orvATF can't or won't help....I hate to say it, but get an attorney. Good luck.
It is still his property, but it is not his responsibility. When an FFL takes in a gun for consignment sale, it gets entered into the FFL's bound book, and from thereon it is HIS responsibility.Originally Posted by ultra45

Thanks Hawkmoon, I feel better already just reading your post.
Very true, I'd just feel responsible if the firearm wound up in the wrong place at the wrong time. Not the OP's fault or problem. Just human nature. I hope it is recovered.Originally Posted by Hawkmoon
