In 2011 Cabot Gun Company made its debut at the National Rifle Association’s annual convention in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was there that a prospective customer approached Cabot’s team, inquired about their 1911’s, handled them, and then asked whether Cabot would ever consider making a left-handed model.
Returning to Cabot Guns’ headquarters post-convention, founder Rob Bianchin presented the concept to the company team. He remembers the silence around the table as the idea was considered. The team began immediately working on the specifics of what would be needed to develop an inverted 1911. During that very meeting, the concept began to take shape. “Right there we decided that we could do this and the next day engineering was engaged in a prototype.”
A mere two years from concept to production, Cabot now offers custom mirror image pistol sets comprised of left and right handed 1911's built to Cabot’s exceptional standards.
Cabot models of the Jones 1911, Jones Deluxe, National Standard, RangeMaster and American Joe are now available in sets comprising both a right-handed, and an identical, completely inverted left-handed pistol. Cabot Guns is the only producer in the market which is capable of offering such sets designed and built from the ground up.
"We’re taking the time and the care to do what other gun companies are just not doing,” stated Bianchin. “Our left-handed gun is completely inverted which includes not only the ejection port and thumb controls, but we’ve also gone so far as to invert the rifling twist in the barrel so the torque of the gun and its felt recoil is correct when shot left handed.”
Adopting technology from the aerospace industry, these 1911 pistols are engineered from the ground up and fitted using grinding technology. Cabot’s advanced grinding process allows for accuracy ten-times greater than CNC machining, and more consistent finishing than even the finest hand work. Such precision and consistency allows for superior tolerance barriers not found elsewhere in the firearms industry. This level of care and dedication to perfection is what has earned Cabot Guns the description as the “Rolls Royce of 1911s” by the Blue Book of Gun Values.
The photos provided with this release are a sample of a bespoke set of Cabot National Standard model pistols customized to include the client's logo at the rear of the slide. These pistols were commissioned by a prominent collector.
A set of left and right Cabot pistols range in price depending on the model, options, and customization desired. A set of perfectly identical, precisely inverted pistols begin at $12,000, with current options and personalization features reaching $30,000 for the pair.
