Can't say yet, just bought my first Commander sized 1911 in 10mm. It'll get a good workout under the desert sun. Should know soon.

As Col. Cooper said, "If I have full weight, I want full length, too."
If the gun is all-steel, give me a 5" barrel. If you're going to shorten the barrel, lighten the gun, too. 39oz Government Model, or 27oz Commander.

Good point... and to complicate things further, we now have an option from Colt (O1880XSE) and some custom makers that the good Colonel never saw: a 5" 1911 with an aluminum alloy frame, at 29oz!
Too many people miss the silver lining because they're expecting gold.

Yeah, I don't know which is the better mousetrap, something like a CCO, or an alloy-framed 5" gun? So many choices. I often carry a Detonics Combat Master, which is tiny (for a 1911), but all steel, weighing 30oz. For shooting, as opposed to carrying, I like the extra weight in such a small, powerful gun.
EDIT: Off-body carry for the Combat Master, where compactness is more important than weight. Don't want to appear hypocritical after claiming I want full length for full weight . . .

4.25" perfect size
4.25"
I get faster follow up shots on target. The weight of a steel gun is no issue for me....
heck, I tote around enough of that anyway.
Beauty is skin deep but ugly goes right to the bone.
I have a SW 1911SC bobtail commander size, great gun, shoots great and carries well and the lighter weight does not seem to make any difference in the recoil. If you decide to get yours I think you will be happy with it.

+1 for 4.25". But I hate 4" guns!
