Destro, the M1911 can be detail-stripped with only a cartridge case to unscrew the grip screws. Thus, no tool is needed.Originally Posted by Destro

I use Caspian's multi-tool with some regularity.
I suppose a really tightly-fitted pistol might need a bushing wrench, but my full-length guide rod-equipped Para doesn't (it came with a plastic wrench, which I still have -- somewhere). I use whatever I have handy to press the plug inward: the basepad of a magazine, usually. Even if I have the Caspian multitool in hand, I use the side of a punch to press the plug in, rather than 'unfold' the whole thing to use the wrench!
You mention field-stripping, rather than detail-stripping. Even the latter can be accomplished with no additional parts, but there are one or two things that come quite handy. Caspian's tool comes a long way in that, but you probably will find a few other things useful.

Destro, if you do order the Caspian multi-tool, remember to tell Caspian that you want the M1911.ORG version, it allows us to get some small commission, which helps keep these sites alive.
If you include a bushing wrench, as far as I know the ONLY multi-tool available for the M1911 is the Caspian multi-tool. I have a couple of them -- one lives on the workbench, the other lives in my range bag.

Remington is selling a similar unit that has the bushing wrench.
I looked at them, and to be quite honest, wasn't impressed with them or the $50 price tag.
The Remington and Caspian unit are both made in China.

The Remington is a re-badged Caspian.
