Need a replacement recoil spring for a Charles Daly mid-size 1911

Good afternoon,

A friend of mine recently picked up a used Charles Daly mid size 1911, and it's having problems feeding. I believe the recoil spring needs to be replaced. I see that Numrich has the original springs in stock, but I am reluctant to purchase an original spring due to quality concerns. Can anyone suggest a specific spring from a quality manufacturer that will serve as a replacement? Wolff, Wilson Combat, etc. I don't know the exact length or weight needed, which is why I am posting here.

Barrel length?
Configuration bushing vs bull?

Problems feeding what bullet type?

4 inch barrel, bull. He's been shooting Winchester 230 grain ball ammo, and some Blazer.

The Wolff replacement for the Kimber Compact might work.

Are you certain it's a 4-inch, and not a 4-1/4-inch? I know that doesn't seem like a big difference, but for choosing the recoil spring in a 1911 it does matter. Please reconfirm.

Yes, the barrel is 4 inches.

Wolff #49022 or #32725

According to Wolff, a 4" 1911 uses the same spring as an Officers ACP. Standard rate is 22 pound for .45 ACP.

I would recommend going with the #32725 as Wolff says it cures many feed issues in 4 inch barrel 1911's.

Agree. Using a 3.5" OACP spring in a 4" Compact is not very effective.
The question is, is the Daly a close enough copy of American guns like Kimber for the Kimber 327325 spring to fit?

The REAL cure for the chronically undersprung 4" gun is a flatwire conversion. Again, we don't know if the available EGW, ISMI, and Wilson parts will fit a Daly.

Charles Daly 1911 models used to be made by Armscor, the manufacturer of RIAs. I have a CD Officer model and its 100% compatible with standard Officer model parts..
