New Colt Commander

I have just added a new Colt 1991 Stainless Steel Commander to my collection. I am looking forward to shooting it this week while I am on my vacation.

I am very pleased with the fit and finish. If it shoots as good as it looks, I will truly be a happy camper.

I will post a range report as soon as possible.

Here is a picture.

Glad to have a new forum to be a part of.

Best Wishes to all,

Chuck

Congratulations on your purchase. I am sure that you will really enjoy that pistol. Looks like a very long trigger on that model; I like that! Look forward to your range report.

My Series 80 stainless Commander is my most carried pistol. IMHO you can't beat the combination of reliability, accuracy, balance, and concealability.

My experience with the 1991 series is with a basic Government Model which has been lightly customized. It's also 100% reliable, and accurate.

Thank you both for your responses.

This is a nice addition to my collection of colts which includes a Gold Cup National Match, a Gold Cup Trophy, a Defender and now this Commander.

I recently sold a Springfield Armory TRP (first addition). They are fine pistols, but I am just happier with Colts.

I really do look forward to trying it out. I am going to shoot it with a friend who helped me sell the TRP. Definately need to let him shoot it.

Thumbs up
Sweet!

Commanders look great! Especially the ones Colt are building now. The roll marks look classy, and glad to see the pony is right where it should be!
The only compact size Colt I own is the Series 80 'Compact' model, with a 3.5" barrel. It's the older roll mark 1991-A1. It doesn't look nearly as good as yours, but it sure shoots. I practice off-hand at 21ft, and have no problem blowing the X-ring out of the targets.
Looking forward to your range report.

Jim

Way to go!

Nice pistol, GCT. Glad to see Colt stopped using plastic triggers!

Thanks for the pick...I have been debating for awhile as to my first 1911. After that pick, I think that a colt 1991 ss commander will be my choice.

sgb,

I am stilll debating what I will do to customize. The only thing so far is to order a SS Les Baer serrated main spring housing from Brownells. I am also going to install a reduced (19 lb) main spring. I will probably leave the sights alone. I thought about Heinie's Night Eyes, but the cost of sights and the install are nearly half the price of the gun . I am going to shoot it first. I had forgotton just how nice the stock white dot sights really are. I would like a fitted beavertail, but in all reality the factory ducktail safety feels pretty good. Checkering is definately out, TRP was checkered and it did not do that much for me. I will post if I decide to do any other mods. Thanks for your suggestions.

mod 29,

I hope that mine shoots as well as yours. From everything I have heard the ORM 1991s were great guns.

Rotz, 1911WB, mkink,

I appreciate the nice commments. I too am glad that the trigger is not plastic. I am 99% sure that I will not replace it.

Best to all and welcome to our new forum,

Chuck
