Please note that the forums in this category are to be used to ask questions or to show us pistols from these manufacturers. They can also be used to ask questions about the parts of a particular pistol from one of these manufacturers, as long as the question relates to the original parts.

  • If your pistol malfunctions and you want to ask for help on how to troubleshoot it, post your question in the "Gunsmithing and Refinishing" forum, not in this one.
  • If you want to ask questions about after-market parts, these questions should go in the "Parts - Grips" forum, not in the manufacturers forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about after-market magazines, these questions should go in the "Magazines" forum, not in these forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about holsters, those questions should go in the "Holsters" forum, not in these forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about conversion kits, those questions should go in the "Conversion Kits" forum, not these forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about which ammo to use with your pistol, those questions should be posted in the "Ammo" forum, not these forums.

Messages with questions for after-market parts, magazines, holsters, conversion kits, ammo etc. will be moved to the proper forum and a warning will be issued.

IMPORTANT: In Photo-threads, each post should contain at least one picture of your own. Quoting a previous post, does not make your post compliant with that requirement. Photo threads are NOT for chatting.

I'm trying to buy an RIA 1911, but it seems that no one in the St. Louis area carries them. The last gun shop I talked to said the wouldn't carry them, when I ask why, the nice man said that you can't make ice cream out of s**t

What I need is an address either snail mail or e-mail for RIA, so I can contact them and see if they know of any dealer in the St. Louis area.

This is my 1st 1911, and I never thought I'd have more trouble from dealers than the state.

Thanks in advance

a1abob... Just a thought: you might try GunBrokers.Com. I've got 2 RIAs coming from different auctions, actual price under $300.00... But, you gotta have a local FFL person to have them shipped to. I've got a great one here in Aggieland TX.

I've not seen any RIAs locally, either. John's forum here, was the first and only place I heard of them. Wouldn't have bid on 'em had it not been for the forums here.

Hope this helps. Have been to St. Louis, years ago... but, before I was into firearms. Good luck, however you decide to/find to pursue this.

Mick

Here is another I have used. But same as Dick said, you need a dealer to accept them for you. It has been some years since I lived in the area but there used to be dealers evrywhere.

Best Wishes,

Bill

Talking

All else fails go here- http://www.sarcoinc.com/rockislands.html and have it sent to your local FFL, don't know one? Go to http://www.gunbroker.com/User/DealerNetwork.asp they have a section where you can put in your zip code and it will list FFL's in your area that will work with you.. Sorry if this has already been covered.....

Yoslick,

Even though the site I gave a1abob has the same feature you mentioned of keying in your zip code and getting a list of the dealers they are working with, Gunbrokers and Gallery of Guns are a bit different. It is good you mentioned Gunbroker because that is another option. I believe Gunbrokers is similar to EBay except it is for guns. You would be dealing with individuals as well as dealers. Gallery of Guns is a distributor who, in effect, sells direct through a local dealer. They also advertise a lifetime warrantee as part of the sale. If a gun they sell you breaks they send you a new one to replace it. I have never had to use this feature so I can’t give personal testimony as to how good they are about honoring it. As flatsixnut points out nobody wants to do business with an ignorant man so even if you choose not to use either gunbrokers or Gallery of Guns you may have a useful list of dealers in your area who are amenable to working with you.

Sounds as if that gun dealer needs to come here a say that. lol -He needs to find out more about RIA before he spouts off. Dealers like that are just missing a chance to sell a nice entry level, reliable pistol. Rather steer you towards $700-$2ooo pistol. If you are going to change much on the RIA 1911A1 -You will probaly save abit of money buying , say a Kimber with the bells & whistles already there- but, if you want a good shooting, reliable, & inexpensive pistol. Get A RIA.
