Please note that the forums in this category are to be used to ask questions or to show us pistols from these manufacturers. They can also be used to ask questions about the parts of a particular pistol from one of these manufacturers, as long as the question relates to the original parts.
Messages with questions for after-market parts, magazines, holsters, conversion kits, ammo etc. will be moved to the proper forum and a warning will be issued. IMPORTANT: In Photo-threads, each post should contain at least one picture of your own. Quoting a previous post, does not make your post compliant with that requirement. Photo threads are NOT for chatting. |

Gold Cup vs Special Combat Gov.
So is the Special Combat Gov. basically a tricked up Gold Cup?
Are they hard to find?

They are not related to the Gold Cup with the exception it is a Colt Government Model. The SCG is built on an original style frame and slide. The Gold Cup is built on an enhanced model frame and slide. The Gold Cup goes down the standard production line with all the other standard model Colt's i.e. 1991 series, XSE series, etc. The SCG is hand fitted in the Colt Custom shop and is fully accurized. Much more time and work goes into a SCG. No extra time goes into a Gold cup over a standard blue 01991 Colt. The standard 01991 shoots and functions as well as a Gold Cup. The Gold Cup used to be a Custom Shop pistol but that time has long since passed. That is not to take away from the Gold Cup in any way. The Gold is a nice pistol; but so are all Colts these days. In answer to your question; the SCG are not terribly hard to find. The only thing that might make them somewhat difficult to loacte sometimes of the year is how Colt only produces 1-2 different models at a time.
There are five on gunbroker. There is also several gunshows this weekend across the state. I'll be at the one in Fort Worth. Here is a link to the schedule. http://www.gunshowminute.com/tx/#tiptop |

JustinTime pretty much nailed it. Of course the Gold Cups have the wider trigger and maintain the adjustible sights. Some folk love the wider trigger and others hate it. If you want to visit a lot of gun stores and are patient you could cherry pick a Gold Cup that is great instead of just very good.
