Please note that the forums in this category are to be used to ask questions or to show us pistols from these manufacturers. They can also be used to ask questions about the parts of a particular pistol from one of these manufacturers, as long as the question relates to the original parts.

  • If your pistol malfunctions and you want to ask for help on how to troubleshoot it, post your question in the "Gunsmithing and Refinishing" forum, not in this one.
  • If you want to ask questions about after-market parts, these questions should go in the "Parts - Grips" forum, not in the manufacturers forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about after-market magazines, these questions should go in the "Magazines" forum, not in these forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about holsters, those questions should go in the "Holsters" forum, not in these forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about conversion kits, those questions should go in the "Conversion Kits" forum, not these forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about which ammo to use with your pistol, those questions should be posted in the "Ammo" forum, not these forums.

Messages with questions for after-market parts, magazines, holsters, conversion kits, ammo etc. will be moved to the proper forum and a warning will be issued.

Is the new model 10MM built on a 1911

If you purchased a new 10MM could you get a 45 slide and barrel and put it on that frame also?

to the forum.

The new Delta 10mm (which is what I believe you are speaking of) is built on a 1911 platform, however there are quite a few differences between a 10mm and a 45cal 1911.

While what you suggest is technically possible it would be a monumental undertaking to have it reliable. It would be much more practical (and probably cheaper) to simply buy 2 pistols.

That said, it would be practical to fit a 40cal barrel, magazine and recoil assembly to a Delta, if that is of any interest to you.

DuckRyder, is it really that hard? Both the 10mm and .45 Auto frames would use the same ejector, I believe. Would there be a frame ramp issue?

I believe the Delta uses a Super .38 ramp. Many who have built them using non-ramped .45 frames report its very hit and miss for reliability.

I'll try to dig mine out tomorrow and verify that my memory is correct.

Guess I have fallen behind! The quote of The late Col. Cooper comes to mind with both the 10mm and DA 1911,, "the answer to a question that's never been asked". I am aware he was an early proponent of 10mm.

I have a Delta Gold Cup. I loooove the 10mm. As for 40 cal I've heard of feeding problems for them with non-ramped barrels. I'm building a 40/10 commander sized 1911 now but I was talked into using ramped barrels.

I believe the actual quote from the late Col. Cooper was "It's the solution to a non-existent problem", and he was referring to a number of captured German DA semi-autos (mostly P-38s), that he was testing in Quantico, shortly after the war.
