Kimber Finish
I was reading about Kimber on another forum. An invidivual had some rust on his brand new Stainless Pro Carry II. Is this a common problem with Kimbers? I have heard they are extremely accurate and look like very classy guns. Thanks for the informations guys.

I'm no expert, but I'll be I could rust up any brand new gun if I wanted to. A little sweat will do the job.
Luckily, a quality silicon cloth will prevent things like that. By the way, stainless rusts too. Nothing wrong with the gun. |

r n 101If I'm not mistaken, the "stainless steel" used in firearms is JUST BARELY a stainless. 300 and 400 series s/s is not magnetic, but I'm not sue this alloy is good for making guns.
The "stainless" in Kimbers and some others, I believe are of High Nickel content, and ARE magnetic. Try yours and see. If you keep your pistol(s) serviced properly, corrosion should not be a problem. HOWEVER, I have a friend that has a series I Eclipse and had to have it finished with the "Kim-Pro" finish to keep rust at bay. Don't lose too much sleep over "rust", and don't put too much "faith" in the Stainless Steel used in handguns. Remember ----ALL steel will rust. Some just take longer than others.

Kimber's stainlesses are bead blasted too, and there are more pits for stuff to accumulate in and corrode. My Kimber barrel had some corrosion on it from the factory. I had it in for some other work, and they cleaned it up. However, best shooting gun I've ever owned, and the absolute last I would sell. Just gotta keep it oiled religiously.

Barrels will rust easily especially on the Bull style ones.

Wore my Kimber Stainless Pro Carry one summer night when my wife and I were out dancing. Made the mistake of not wiping the gun down before going to sleep and woke the next morning to find rust (on the gun.) I have avoided that since, by doing two things: 1. Alway have something between me and the gun such as a t-shirt...no direct skin contact, and 2., apply a light coat of oil before going out for the evening, giving the gun a quick wipe down upon returning home at night.
