Probably the old WW II 1911's, We were still using those WW two models in the early 80's, Could have been a Colt, Ithaca, Remington Rand, or a combo of any of the above, In fact A couple of the Units are still using those same old 1911's in Afganistan and Iraq today. You can find old Government Models at gun shows, pawn shops and gun shops, Cherry 1911's are costing bookoo bucks, but you can find old mix masters, for around $400.00. Springfield makes a really nice WW II model, its new but it's a dead ringer and they run right around $400.00

BTW I was a Scout, Spent a ton of time living in the old 113, can't say I enjoyed it too much.

Somehow I think "slabsides" is probably a more accurate description of the M113 than the 1911. :P

Virtually anything made for the US military could have been used over there. Even the old WW1-era Colts could still be found, although by then the original bluing on those would've been replaced with a parkerized finish courtesy of some arsenal somewhere.
