Does anyone have the recipe for "Eds Red" cleaner or can you direct me to where I may find it? I've stumbled on to it a time or two but was reminded by stumbling on to M1911.org forums. New Member!!!

I've used Ed's Red (without the lanolin) for years, and my guns look like new. (Of course I don't shoot all that much anyway....) It's very good for removing powder fouling. I've never owned a shotgun, so can't speak to its effectiveness on plastic residue. It will not remove copper fouling or leading. It hasn't harmed the wood bits (yet). I wipe a damp patch all over the outside of the gun and then wipe that off; this leaves a thin coating that won't dry out for several weeks, so it's OK for short-term rust prevention too (assuming a reasonable climate).

If you want to skip making it yourself, I've heard that Dunk-Kit from Cylinder & Slide is the same stuff. If it's not the same, it is the same concept. I've been using Dunk-Kit for several years now and have been happy with it. I still use MPro-7 to clean the bore, though.
