Ultimate Master Combat 1.5"

After nearly 12 weeks of waiting my new Baer came in. OMG! This gun is just phenomenal! The initial pleasantries of racking the slide and trying the trigger were extremely pleasant but brief as I could hardly wait to shoot it.

Over a couple of hours I went throught 500 rounds of S&B ammo. The gun worked perfectly until just over 400 rounds the slide failed to lock back after one magazine then several magazines later the same thing happened on another. Did this bother me? Not in the least, the magazines I was using were all range mags and the gun fed perfectly with all of them even firing full mags as fast as I could pull the trigger. I used Metalforms with plastic, round and flat metal followers, Baer mags and a Chip McCormick power mag.

The gun is just incredibly accurate. All of my shooting was hand held, but the extra degree of accuracy was noticable compared to my highly accurate TRS.

I have to wait the mandated 10 days before I can bring this pistol home. When I do I'll take and post some photos. The grips are attractive and quite aggressively checkered. Coupled with the checkering on the front strap, MSH and under the trigger guard my grip on the gun was rock solid.

I think I've run out of glowing adjectives for tonight, but this gun deserves each one of them and more, wow!

All I got to shoot today were pictures.

Looks like I've got this thread all to myself.

More to follow.

Yes. It's that kind of gun. It's definitely in the running as my favorite 1911. Of course this will have to be determined over a few cases of ammo.

Hey I thought this was my thread? Ok John you can join in, but the new guy buys the first round.

The target that came with the gun had no explanation of how many rounds were shot at what distance so I called and got the answer directly from Les Baer. It is a 10 shot group at 50 yards.

The most recent time I shot the UM I was pleased that even with the extended parts the gun still fits fine in my Sparks VM2. I shot 200 rounds of Federal AE and the pistol worked perfectly. Most of my shooting was draw and shoot on the move type of practice using a steel FBI Q target with some 70 yard standing freehand shots thrown in for good measure. Even freehand I was able ring the steel with every shot at 70. At that distance the Q's head was about the same width as my front sight giving a nice reference point for centering my shots.

I made a couple of observations regarding the differences between this gun and the TRS. The top and rear slide serrations show quality craftsmanship, but are purely window dressing. The under the trigger guard serrations have more practicality not so much as a grip enhancer as a tactile indicator of a consistent grip. My carry gun, a Custom CDP, has this feature too and I like them enough that I prefer them given the choice.

Here's my read on the extended parts. I'm neutral on extended magwell funnels. I have 1911s with and without them. I can see their attributes, but I don't think they're necessary and I wouldn't want one on my carry guns. This magwell funnel was obviously fit to the gun rather than bolted on. The internal seam is smooth all the way around.

I wasn't sure about the extended mag release button initially, however the more I used it the more I liked it. It just feels good to me when using it. The extended thumb safety works just fine. I won't go to the trouble to change it out. If I was going to spec out a new one though I would go with the standard sized ambi safety.

Although the wait was long and the price was steep I have no regrets about purchasing this gun. She's a sweet shooter.
