Please note that the forums in this category are to be used to ask questions or to show us pistols from these manufacturers. They can also be used to ask questions about the parts of a particular pistol from one of these manufacturers, as long as the question relates to the original parts.

  • If your pistol malfunctions and you want to ask for help on how to troubleshoot it, post your question in the "Gunsmithing and Refinishing" forum, not in this one.
  • If you want to ask questions about after-market parts, these questions should go in the "Parts - Grips" forum, not in the manufacturers forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about after-market magazines, these questions should go in the "Magazines" forum, not in these forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about holsters, those questions should go in the "Holsters" forum, not in these forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about conversion kits, those questions should go in the "Conversion Kits" forum, not these forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about which ammo to use with your pistol, those questions should be posted in the "Ammo" forum, not these forums.

Messages with questions for after-market parts, magazines, holsters, conversion kits, ammo etc. will be moved to the proper forum and a warning will be issued.

IMPORTANT: In Photo-threads, each post should contain at least one picture of your own. Quoting a previous post, does not make your post compliant with that requirement. Photo threads are NOT for chatting.

Ao M1911a1 Pkz

Hey guys, have not posted here in a probably a month. I saw this really awesome .45! "Auto Ordinance M1911A1 Parkerized" is the name. My only pistol is a Springfield GI .45, which is good, but the markings are a give away that the gun is clearly a post war reproduction("Springfield Armory" on the slide). I really want to trade my GI .45 for this AO PKZ; it resembles the WWII era U.S. sidearm in every way.

I love history. Mostly I'm interested in the 20th century wars. Obviously, a big part of the interest in the wars is the small arms. My favorite small arms: M1 Garand, M1 Carbine, Yugo SKS, M870, M1903/M1917 rifle, No. 4 MKI Enfield, and most of all the M1911A1 sidearm.

OK, enough gun porn blabber, eh? Here are my questions: How well will this pistol perform NEW out of the box? Will JHP+P treat this gun nicely? What sort of JHP loads do you recommend? What sort of magazines should I use? Will this be as accurate as my SA GI .45? How durable and long lasting will this pistol be? Are there any components that differ from the other GI 1911s?

Did you read our review of that pistol in our E-zine? Here: http://ezine.m1911.org/AO1911A1_frame.htm

If I am not mistaken, the author (Hunter) liked that pistol enough to buy it for himself.

John is right, after the review I bought the test pistol.
REally the only think I did not like was the factory magazine. Though it did function with FMJ it did not like JHP or LSWCs. With the Checkmate magazines the pistol was 100% with all ammunition.
Check out the review for more details.
