Dear friends I'm in search of your advice and comments on the history and recent developments of the Auto Ordance M1911. The gentleman that previous owned it, put a Springfield barrel in it, Yet he never fired it, of course he soon recently past away. The seller did not know the reason it was never sold and why a sprinfield barrel was put in. Apperantly there has been problems with the gun can anyone please fill me in as to what and did Kahr really buy Auto ordance. Thank you

Yes, Kahr bought Auto Ordnance all right.

As to why the barrel was changed, I do not think there is anyone here (or anywhere else for that matter) who can answer this question for you. The surprising thing is that it was changed with a Springfield barrel, which are (as far as I know) two-piece barrels. If someone wanted to improve on the original, he would have used something better, so I have to assume that this was all the past owner found.

For $419 I think you can get a brand new Springfield Armory GI WWII series pistol and it is likely to be of higher quality.

Was the pistol you are looking at built by the old Auto Ordnance company, or by Kahr? Look on the slide and frame and tell us what city is listed under the name of the manufacturer.

I agree that $419 is too high for a used A-O. The $419 price for a NEW Springfield GI (which is a more accurate rendition of a genuine WW2 pistol, by the way) is correct. I was with a friend yesterday when he bought one for $419, new in box, with all manuals and accessories.

I just took a look at the sale brochure from the same shop where my friend just bought a Springfield GI. They are advertising the A-O for $410 ... new.

Not to knock AO but id try the Springfield mil spec here. It has a forged frame not investment cast and could be a stronger frame.Let us know what you do.At least go price one out then compare them.

I just went browsing for a new no frills 1911a1 and liked both of them(AO Army & SA WW2). I wanted to collect a few 1911a1's in 45acp and I ended up buying both of them and now i can compare them. I've have a SA series 90 for years still NIB. I feel we never know how long a production run will last on these WW2 copies. My local dealer had the Auto-Ordnance Army WW2 for $389 and the Springfield Armory WW2 for $419 and both these guns list for over $500. I believe the Auto-Ordnance is a closer copy of the WW2 1911. On the Springer it says "Made in Brazil" and it has the key loc. I do expect both guns to perform well. I was thinking about getting another 1 or 2 of the Auto-Ordnance Army 1911a1's to put away just incase they catch on as collectables and the prices go up. You never know down the road what these will be worth in the future to collectors. I've seen some of this stuff be dirt cheap then sky rocket overnite. My new SA series 90 1911a1 with all the bells and whistles years ago was $350 and look at what they are today.

The 1911/1911a1 is the only pistol that just feels right in your hand and it may sound weird but it just has that feel that i can't explain.

I don't know too much about 1911a1's when it comes to models and options. It says on the box its a "Series 90" its black parkerized and it has the white dot sights and i'm not sure what else it has. This is an older Springer that i purchased brand new in the 90's. I don't think i have shot two boxes of ammo thru it and i take it out maybe once every few years to put a few rounds thru it and away it goes again. Its never been carried or out of the box that much its still in new condition. My dealer told me its worth a few dollars now. Back then it was top of the line springers.

Sorry I hope i didn't confuse anyone , I dug out the orginal springer box today and it says "1911a1 90's Edition" and the box has the part number #P19108. It is parkerized, in 45acp and it has the taller white dot sites. I think I purchased in the late 80's or early 90's.
