Please note that the forums in this category are to be used to ask questions or to show us pistols from these manufacturers. They can also be used to ask questions about the parts of a particular pistol from one of these manufacturers, as long as the question relates to the original parts.

  • If your pistol malfunctions and you want to ask for help on how to troubleshoot it, post your question in the "Gunsmithing and Refinishing" forum, not in this one.
  • If you want to ask questions about after-market parts, these questions should go in the "Parts - Grips" forum, not in the manufacturers forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about after-market magazines, these questions should go in the "Magazines" forum, not in these forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about holsters, those questions should go in the "Holsters" forum, not in these forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about conversion kits, those questions should go in the "Conversion Kits" forum, not these forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about which ammo to use with your pistol, those questions should be posted in the "Ammo" forum, not these forums.

Messages with questions for after-market parts, magazines, holsters, conversion kits, ammo etc. will be moved to the proper forum and a warning will be issued.

IMPORTANT: In Photo-threads, each post should contain at least one picture of your own. Quoting a previous post, does not make your post compliant with that requirement. Photo threads are NOT for chatting.

STI Customer Service A+

I called STI today to ask a relatively simple technical question. My phone call was answered in less than 3 rings and on hold for less than 30 seconds. My question was answered and a follow up question by the gentleman on the phone "how is the gun running?" Very nice to not be quickly ushered off of the phone and able to speak with someone live. Before anyone asks, my question was, if it is ok if there is some floating of the guide rod when the pistol is assembled. When I assemble my Escort and Off Duty the end of the guide rod is slightly protruding past the frame and if you push in on the guide rod it becomes flush with the frame.

I bet it was wonderful to have a gun manufacturer ask you how their gun was running ! I, too, have had good luck with my STI Trojan (knock on wood) and their Customer Service.

They seem to be nice folks, along with their STI Distributors who are also good to work with.

I would never part with my STI.

I sent an STI back for service a few months ago. They not only provided outstanding customer service, the gun was only out of my hands for a week.

It is normal. There is a certain amount of floating that happens due to the two spring design. With the slide off of the frame the guide rod end does protrude just a little and you can't push it rearward, once you mate the frame to the slide, the recoilmaster compressess just enough that the rod floats a little. I also have an STI catalog with a picture of the Escort and the end is flush.

They are helpful. I remember a long time back my 9mm Trojan's extractor started to slip the rim and needed retensioning so I called them to ask what tension they set them to.

ME: "My Trojan's extractor is slipping the rim."

STI Gunsmith (concerned): "How many rounds on it?"

ME: " uhhh..... maybe ten thousand."

STI "Oh......"

He went out and asked the guy who did their extractors and he said about 20 ounces as I recall.
