I have a 2000 production year CD with the BIG slide stop release lever that I want to replace with a standard size one. Does anyone have personal experience with a "drop in" that is the right size? I have heard that CDs sometimes have non standard parts and tolerances. Thanks.

Contrary to popular belief, there are very parts for the 1911 that will "Drop-in"

You'll have to fit the lug that contacts the follower on the mag, to make sure its not hitting the rounds as they pass up next to it. Most, if not all slide stops are made a bit larger in this area, for a precise fit.

As for CD's being out of spec etc., I have no experience with them.

WCHAKA is correct that with some components fitting is not unusual. I have been fortunate in that regard. I have a later production Charles Daly (EFS). It came with the extended slide stop which I prefer. I bought an after market extended slide stop for another 1911 I have and tried it in the Charles Daly. It dropped right in as did a standard slide stop from a Colt. In fact all the mil spec parts I have tried have dropped right in and worked perfectly. My experience with their customer service has been equally satisfactory. I had had an occasionally failure of the slide to locked back after firing the last round. But it may have been magazine related. Also, when my friend who is left handed fired it the right extended safety would drop off. I never had a problem but sent the gun back to CD anyway. They estimated it would take six to eight weeks. It came back in a little over three and everything was replaced free of charge and they paid for shipping both ways. Personally my experience with CD has been better than with some of the much higher priced, big name manufacturers. Not bad for a gun I bought new for $385.
