The first Kimber 1911
Well if you don't mind a full sized 1911 and the full sized is not as easy to carry as the smaller Kimber 1911s. I would look real close at the Custom TLE II it's all steel slide and frame with a 5 inch bbl. and nightsights. it's easy to shoot and get tight groups at range. Thats my advice for the first Kimber 1911.

I bought my first 1911, a Kimber Team Match II, in October 2004 because it had the combination of features that I wanted. I'm 100 percent satisfied with my Kimber. I think you'll have to make some decisions on what features you want or need, not to mention cost, before selecting the appropriate model. Obviously, one approach would be to get a basic model and then change it as the need arises. |

For the IDPA etc. which I think you were talking about your son wanting to get into, I would go with the polymer high cap think it's called the custom ten or something like that. Basically get the one that has the most stuff that you think you would want, then add from there down the road.

My first 1911 and first .45 ACP was the Kimber Pro CDP II:
Home > 1911 Pistols > CDP My primary objective with this purchase was a totally reliable CCW firearm, but still have the ability to be accurate and take a lot of practice time. I haven't regretted the purchase one bit! Since then I've added a couple Para 1911's to the mix, but the Kimber remains my go-to gun. Here's a little write-up I did over on Handloads.com when I was researching this purchase: Ultimate Kimber CCW thoughts please I also placed a certain amount of confidence with the fine article written by Jeff Quinn at Gunblast, com on this firearm here: Kimber Pro CDP II .45 Auto And here's a little bench rest testing of some handloads I did just yesterday: Okay, I'll stop ramblin' now... ![]() |
