  • If your pistol malfunctions and you want to ask for help on how to troubleshoot it, post your question in the "Gunsmithing and Refinishing" forum, not in this one.
  • If you want to ask questions about after-market parts, these questions should go in the "Parts - Grips" forum, not in the manufacturers forums.

new Charles Daly EFS owner

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to say I am a proud new owner of a Charles Daly EFS 5" 1911 in blue (my first 1911 purchase) Just started the DROS and am very excited to take it to the range and add some mods.

First, where can I get grips that fit, I heard the ambi-safety keeps our CD from getting many nice grips to fit. Also, any fellow CD members out there have any advice on how to care for the gun and things to look out for? I am new to John Browning's 1911 design but I have been shooting my locking block designed Taurus PT92 for years with zero jams out of about 2500 rounds fired flawlessly.

Welcome to the Forum!

Congratulations on your new gun. The CD is a copy of Colt's 1911 and the maintainance is the same. The first link is the Forums maintainance Threads. The second is the home page of m1911.org wherein on the left side of the page you will find links that provide a wealth of info on the 1911.

Also, with a Dremel tool and a little patience, along with a steady hand, you can make just about any grip available fit.

aznxtroplx welcome and congrads on the EFS .

You will find "Or most certainly should find" that that Daly will serve you well for many many years to come and very possibly your children and their children .

First off unless you will be shooting rather soft target loads replace the recoil spring the one that comes with the gun is a bit underpowered for even standard factory ball ammo , a Wolf 16# recoil spring will go a very long way to making it 100% reliable .

As for modifications the only thing I have done is replace the grips with a set of the Pachmayr wraparounds with the finger groves .

The trigger pull on my EFS is fabulous and was out of the box "wish I could say the same for the EMS's trigger as it was horrid out of the box" the EFS sights are dead on and after a few thousand rounds nothing has broken other than the recoil spring Plug a $10 part .

Any grip made to the correct specs should work without modification about all you would need to do is have the safety engaged or up , while putting them on so it is out of the way . My ambi and new grips fit fine without doing anything to either as the Daly/Armscor ambi isn't one of the overly large obnoxious designs .

Other than changing recoil spring , grips and sights to a more visible set I don't know much you would need to do to make it a bit more serviceable .

I, too, am a closet CD fan. My first revolver was a Rossi and my first 1911 was a Charles Daly, so I've got a soft spot for both of them. I've had numerous examples of each, but none of the problems everyone talks about. Maybe I'm just lucky. My Charles Daly is the 3 1/2" ECS. I haven't run a bunch of rounds through it, or my other ECS, but I've never had any failures. I think it looks kind-of natural with the Colt and the Springer - in spite of the poor photo. Good luck with yours.

I now own 2 of the Daly 1911's, and the Compact ECS is my nearly every day carry pistol. It has been perfect for me.
I also have a full size ECS that a previous owner added different parts to, so I am adding different parts of my own to see how that works.
I must tell you that there is no "out of the box" tuning required to get these guns to shoot well. Every Armscor-made 1911 pistol I have ever owned has been a very good one.
Enjoy and welcome home.

Mark

I has a CD Field Grade full-size for many years. It functioned without fail right out of the box.

Some idiot I know traded it away.

Enjoy!

Sorry for the long wait for the range report guys, been really busy.

The gun was accurate right out of the box, too bad I didn't keep the target but my first 8 round magazine yielded 2 inch groups at 30 yards. Although I got 2 FTE out of 100 rounds of Winchester White Box, I am pleased (it could be a magazine problem because those 2 FTEs were the last round in the mag that didn't feed right so Wilson Combat mags should solve that little problem)

Finish is great and so were the grips although I will change them out to black double diamond. Looks like this gun doesn't need ambi-safety cut so that's a plus.

Package came with rudimentary trigger lock, 2 Mec Gar Italy 8 rd mags, Inspection Cert. from the Phillipines with 2 brass cases.

Overall, very satisfied for a 1911 plinker, some Kimber fellas were shocked at how it shot and looked at the range. Get some serious bang for the buck or go spend $1k. I'm riding the 1911 train and I'm not getting off. Or maybe I already am
