Kimber Rimfire 22

I have owned this firearm for a year, but shoot it rarely. It is accurate, but the slide closes after the last round is fired. Anyone have any comments on this issue.

I have one... love it! It's one of the best triggers I have. Wicked accurate, and very reliable, now that it is broken in, and now that I use only Aguila Super Max ammo. The more power, the better it likes it.

None of the .22 cal 1911s lock the slide back after the last round, except, I hear, the Advantage Arms conversion slide.

Thanks for the reply, I thought that was the case, but reading the manual confused me as it states the opposite. I thought I was losing it.

The Kimber .22 Conversion kit certainly doesn't. I'm used to other 1911's doing that. Minor pain.... Kimber's reasoning is that the metal slide stop would tear up the plastic magazine follower. It would also have to have a projection quite some distance from the gun's centerline.

22 Conversion Kits & Slide Lockback

I am not aware of any currently available .22 conversion kits for the 1911 that provide for slide lockback after the last round. I believe this relates to the fact that the steel slide stop would tear up the light weight aluminum slide which is necessitated by the low recoil impulse of the .22 rimfire round.

Advantage Arms has solved this problem with their .22 conversion kits for the Glock by incorporating a small steel insert into the aluminum slide to take withstand the impact of the steel slide stop. This works great on the Advantage Arms conversion kit that I have for my Glock 27.

I understand that Advantage Arms plans to offer a similar conversion kit for the 1911. They apparently have some such units in the field for beta-testing, but have been unable as yet to solve some reliability problems that have been encountered with them.
