Please note that the forums in this category are to be used to ask questions or to show us pistols from these manufacturers. They can also be used to ask questions about the parts of a particular pistol from one of these manufacturers, as long as the question relates to the original parts.

  • If your pistol malfunctions and you want to ask for help on how to troubleshoot it, post your question in the "Gunsmithing and Refinishing" forum, not in this one.
  • If you want to ask questions about after-market parts, these questions should go in the "Parts - Grips" forum, not in the manufacturers forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about after-market magazines, these questions should go in the "Magazines" forum, not in these forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about holsters, those questions should go in the "Holsters" forum, not in these forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about conversion kits, those questions should go in the "Conversion Kits" forum, not these forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about which ammo to use with your pistol, those questions should be posted in the "Ammo" forum, not these forums.

Messages with questions for after-market parts, magazines, holsters, conversion kits, ammo etc. will be moved to the proper forum and a warning will be issued.

High polish stainless enhanced QUESTION

I can find very little info on these gems,,,
I am hoping someone here can guide me, or enlightem me.
I was in a local gun shop, and there was a colt officers, Ultimate high polish, enhanced 45 with a set of real elephant ivory grips, The piece was unfired, in the box with all papers and stock grips,,,,, Such a beautiful colt,,, I tried to leave it there, But could not, So I took it home,,, And then a few weeks later another one showed up but it was the government model, Also enhanced/ultimate finish with the same ivory grips,, It was on hold, someone made a deposit on it,,, I waited the 30 days, And the guy who made the deposit couldnt make the final payment, So was the next in line,,, Now I have the 3 1/2" and a 5" model gleaming colts, Both new in box, and I dont know their worth,, I see in the gun price books they are worth 800 bucks or so,,,, But I searched for them all over the net, and cannot find any for sale,,,,,
Please help me find more info on this set of Colts!
Thank you!
Peter.

Pred, I've seen a few of the "Ultimate" models around on the online sites (gunbroker, etc.). They've been pretty pricey!
Congrats on the purchases! LETS SEE SOME PICS!

They are both MK IVs---series 80
I have one officers 45 acp
and one government 45 acp
They are both in 100+ condition, Enhanced and high polish,,,
I would like to find a beat up one for a carry instead of the nighthawg,,, Buy where can I find another, I dont have the heart to carry one of there, althought the officers is a good size,,,,,,,,,,,,,
I usually shoot everything I own, But I cant seem to bring myself to play with the both of them,,, I have put 10 rounds through the officers, and what a nice shooter!!!
I bet that the government would be a fine one too!
Anyway heres another pic,,,,,
Peter.

Nice pair you got there! Real ivory stocks to boot! Very nice! I have a high polish Government Model and I paid $999 for it. I never really saw one before so I decided I "needed" it. Mine doesn't have ivory stocks though. You did good!

Very nice indeed!
FYI, the backstrap you refer to is the "main spring housing"...the one on the Gov't model is "arched". MSH's on Colt's were originally flat. They were changed to the arched style on the M1911A1, and continued that way until the Series 80's were introduced, IIRC.
