Hartford (CT) Police Commemorative Value?

Would any of the knowledgeable 1911 collectors here be so kind as to offer thoughts on the fair market value of a gold engraved Hartford PD commemorative Colt 1911 in pristine (possibly unfired, but this is not verified) condition? It has been in the display case at the range for some time and, since it hasn't sold, I guess I have to begin considering the possibility that it may have my name on it.

Supposedly comes complete with original Colt factory packaging and a wood & glass display case. The asking price is $1200 and I don't know if that's at all negotiable, but if the asking price isn't too unrealistic I may have to start saving my lunch money and see what I can scrape up to make an offer with.

TIA

I'm not a "knowledgeable 1911" collector...

and I don't have a collector's verifiable information if their asking price reflects the value realistically, but the deal seems to sound great, especially if the special engraving was done by Colt.

It's caught your eye, and maybe a call to Colt (with the pistol's serial number handy) might provide some good info for a buying decision.

Sure wished you had some photos as it must be a real "looker"!!!

Hawk, just my guessing here, but if it's authentic and all, the price they're asking could be rather low vs. what this pistol's real worth is. The total production numbers probably were minimal to say the least compared to Colt's special runs of pistols like their WWI repro, which is already fetching prices nearing $1000.

Myself, when I find something like your Hartford PD commemorative, I've come to be of the opinion that the price isn't so critical if it's a gun you just simply have to own.
