Great review. Thanks.
I may have to reconsider my choice of guns after reading the review. I was seriously thinking of getting a Carry 9 but the Carry Gap really looks good since I'm partial to .45's.

Hawkmoon,

Thank you for your usual Excellent job in the review and test of the Para-Ordnance Carry GAP.
Like you, I was very surprised at the ballistics and accuracy of the .45 GAP cartridge from this 3" barreled pistol.

As to the LDA trigger; After testing the Para Carry 9, I can only echo the praise that you have for this design.

Thanks again for your outstanding write-up and photos.

Hawk,

Most excellent review! This looks like a fine pistol, for sure, and you covered all the bases quite well.

I have a Glock 38 (compact model) in .45 GAP and find it to be a very good cartridge. Federal makes their HST load in 230 gr. GAP and that's my ammo of choice. It's very accurate and I've had no problems with it.

I have one critical comment about the Para, though. On a pistol that costs over $1k I would expect the alignment of the slide/frame to be a better fit. Things like this just bother the snot out of me! I know it has nothing to do with how the gun performs, but for that kind of money I expect a little better attention to detail.

Just my .02, of course ....

You are the second person to ask me about that. The photo is of the first pistol, which was a very early production pistol that Para sent to us virtually as soon as they started the line running because they had promised that we would be the first to review this pistol. Knowing that it was not going to be sold as a new pistol, it's possible they didn't pay close attention to that, since it doesn't affect function.

The second pistol is still at the range and I will look at it then next time I'm there (which I hope will be this evening) to see if it has the same misalignment.

Hawk,

That would make sense. I hadn't thought about it that way. Thanks for the input.

Nice job, Hawk!

Question, is the LDA really a double action only pistol? Like a dao Beretta, Sig or S&W 6946? If it is, I am very interested in trying to get some of the boneheads (sorry Hunter, not you) in these parts to look at them. It would probably be too much to ask for, a 1911 that I could actually carry. We know how much I like my Colt's, but I would actually buy one of these if I was told I could carry it.

The LDA is a weird thing. The main part of the pistol is the hammer, which is actually a two-piece affair. There is an article in the Technical Issues forum (I think) on how the LDA works. Contrary to traditional DAO pistols, which usually have a trigger pull which approaches the ... double action pull of their DA counterparts, the LDA's trigger is very light, about 5 lbs on the samples I've tried.
