Please note that the forums in this category are to be used to ask questions or to show us pistols from these manufacturers. They can also be used to ask questions about the parts of a particular pistol from one of these manufacturers, as long as the question relates to the original parts.

  • If your pistol malfunctions and you want to ask for help on how to troubleshoot it, post your question in the "Gunsmithing and Refinishing" forum, not in this one.
  • If you want to ask questions about after-market parts, these questions should go in the "Parts - Grips" forum, not in the manufacturers forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about after-market magazines, these questions should go in the "Magazines" forum, not in these forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about holsters, those questions should go in the "Holsters" forum, not in these forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about conversion kits, those questions should go in the "Conversion Kits" forum, not these forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about which ammo to use with your pistol, those questions should be posted in the "Ammo" forum, not these forums.

Messages with questions for after-market parts, magazines, holsters, conversion kits, ammo etc. will be moved to the proper forum and a warning will be issued.

IMPORTANT: In Photo-threads, each post should contain at least one picture of your own. Quoting a previous post, does not make your post compliant with that requirement. Photo threads are NOT for chatting.

SCG Range report

So, I purchased a Colt Special Combat Government a couple of weeks ago and have put about 1k rounds through it. I did not clean it until after the 500 rd. mark. The gun fed and fired flawlessly through 592 rounds with no cleaning, round 593 failed to feed. This was caused by the round being out of spec, so no fault of the gun. All rounds fired were factory new, not reloads.
300 rounds of CCI Blazer Brass 230 gr HB.
200 rounds Remington 230 gr HB
200 rounds WWB 230 gr HB
100 rounds Speer 200gr HP "flying ashtray" Lawman.
100 rounds Remington Golden Saber 230gr HP bonded
100 rounds Cor-Bon 200 gr +p HP
100 rounds Hornady Tap 200 gr HP
HB=(Hard Ball)
HP=(Hollow Point)

I have to say this is one of the finest 1911's I have ever owned. Sure my NHC Talon III is better fitted and I would own them all if I could, but the Colt SCG is an incredible value, and after all the rounds down range I am mightily impressed. I am actually thinking about one in all Hard Chrome. Is someone going to talk me out of it?

Below is a target fired at 10 yards 2 handed unsupported modified weaver stance, 2- 8 round magazines of CCI Blazer Brass 230 gr HB. I followed it with a picture showing the true size of the target with gun. Thanks for looking.

Very nice...................you need one in hard chrome now..............and maybe a set of them in 38 Super as well. Sorry I'm not good at talking people out of buying another gun. I need to get my last few Colt's to the range, I'm as excited to fire the SCG as I am the WW1.

Well, the two tone has to wait awhile, I just got home from a gun show and dragged a rifle barrel blank back with me. I think a small 221 Sako L461 is in the works.
