Great write up Frank. It's amazing how Awerbuck has adapted simple paper targets by shaping them and moving them around to present more real world scenarios.

Thank you OD* and garrettwc. It was an excellent class, and I had a great time. I'd read his books, so it was a special pleasure to meet him and work through in practice some of the issues he brings up in his books.

The shaped and rearranged targets added a lot to the training IMHO. It seems like a simple thing, but it really does add a new dimension (no pun intended) to the drills.

Good article......Louis has been at our state LEO firearm instructors seminar a few times here, teaching both pistol & shotgun courses.

Very likeable guy and knowledable!

Excellent report.

I've taken his classes the last couple of years and always come away with my mouth hanging open and shaking my head.
Those seemingly simple changes like curving/angling/cutting the targets will wake you up and make you start thinking all over again.

Which is the whole point- That whatever happens, you still have to perform the basics.
Even knowing that going in, he can still rattle anyone with the simplest thing. But most important, he fixes it, too.

Good report Frank.

You mentioned that you used a Bulman SDS holster. I have not tried that offering yet. I am always looking for a good holster that is reasonably priced and doesn't take 16+ weeks to get. What is your view on their quality, and what is their turn around time? Thanks for any info.

Mike

Mike,

Bulman holsters are top quality. His work is right up there with what I've seen of Alessi's work. And he does have some very nice designs. However, like the other top holster makers, you will need your patience. I think that the SDS took about 22 weeks, give or take. In fact, I also ordered an FDS for an Officers size from his "ready to ship" page, and it took 3 to 4 weeks.

It may be that Bulman (and Del Fatti and Alessi) have a little more "cache" than Milt Sparks or Andy Arratoonian, and you will wait for your holster from them as well; but it remains tough, IMHO, to beat the combination of quality and service one gets from Milt Sparks or Andy.

But if you see a Bluman model that you like and if you don't mind the type of wait that's getting to be SOP with the top makers, Bulman quality is outstanding.

BTW, I know that you like snap on designs. Well I just got a couple of Milt Sparks new model, the Axiom. If you're still looking for something of that type, I recommend it highly. It's very well thought out and nicely made. Check it out on the Milt Sparks website. (I was at the range a few days ago wringing them out some and plan to do a post with pictures in the Holster Forum as soon as I get a chance. It'll probably be three or four days.)
