Question
Commander Hammer

What are the advantages to having or installing a commander type hammer?
I've done a search, but it has not satisfied my curiosity.

It eliminates hammer bite and may be slightly less likely to snag clothing. That's about all I can think of.

The original Commander hammer just mimics the hammer of the Browning P35 of that era. I've no idea of any advantages to it unless you're putting a lanyard thru the hole .

It's the only way to modify the pistol, in order to avoid getting the web of your hand pinched. That requires a Commander grip safety or a beavertail, as well.
