Please note that the forums in this category are to be used to ask questions or to show us pistols from these manufacturers. They can also be used to ask questions about the parts of a particular pistol from one of these manufacturers, as long as the question relates to the original parts.

  • If your pistol malfunctions and you want to ask for help on how to troubleshoot it, post your question in the "Gunsmithing and Refinishing" forum, not in this one.
  • If you want to ask questions about after-market parts, these questions should go in the "Parts - Grips" forum, not in the manufacturers forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about after-market magazines, these questions should go in the "Magazines" forum, not in these forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about holsters, those questions should go in the "Holsters" forum, not in these forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about conversion kits, those questions should go in the "Conversion Kits" forum, not these forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about which ammo to use with your pistol, those questions should be posted in the "Ammo" forum, not these forums.

Messages with questions for after-market parts, magazines, holsters, conversion kits, ammo etc. will be moved to the proper forum and a warning will be issued.

IMPORTANT: In Photo-threads, each post should contain at least one picture of your own. Quoting a previous post, does not make your post compliant with that requirement. Photo threads are NOT for chatting.

My new auto-ordnance army ww2 copy 1911a1

Here's my whole story so you understand where i been and were i am now. Back in the mid 70's and early 80's i had two colt 1911a1 gov, and a commander but in 45acp. I had problems with both guns so i parted with them. In the late 80's I purchased a new Springfield series 90 which i also had problems with to this day but its in black park and still new looking in the box.(someday i'll fix it) Being disgusted with the performance of the 1911a1's that i had i figure to just give it one more try before i give up on them. I purchased a used chinese norinco 1911a1 and it worked, properly functioned and was flawless. I was so impressed with it, it raised my interest in getting more 1911a1's. I purchased a new auto-ordnance army ww2 copy 1911a1 and it cycles awesome right out of the box. I installed the full length guide rod with the 18# recoil spring too. Its my very first brand new 1911a1 to work properly right out of the box. Know i now what the hub bub is all about with the 45acp they rock when there right.

My question is why can't the other manufacturers do the samething? The chinese can do it. I wasted a lot of $$ on high priced junk.

Colt had some quality control problems back then, that's all behind them now. The 1911 is a pretty simple design, so you would expect people to be able to make it right by now, unfortunately too many manufacturers believe that they know more than John Moses Browning did, so they change dimensions and tolerances, usually with bad effects. Plus of course, every company makes a lemon once in a while.

While talking about specs, why did you see fit to use an 18 lbs spring? If that's a 5" barreled gun, 16 lbs is the standard.
