Thanks John.
I've been thinking about one of the programs for a little while now. Until your review it's been pretty much buyer beware. You have made my decision easier.

Nice review.
While GunSafe is lacking, you can't beat the price. One thing that appears to not be included in any of the software programs, is for storing shooting information. I don't have a gun yet (still waiting on Kimber), but I know a lot of people like to keep detailed log reports when they go to the range, number of shots fired, failures of any kind, etc., and no where did I see an easy way to go about doing this, except maybe in the notes section... |

As one of the voices that encouraged John to undertake this review, I'm happy to see the results, but disappointed to find that none of the programs seem to really be "up to snuff." Maybe we should persuade John to create our own M1911.ORG gun collector software (but NOT until he finishes writing his half of the definitive 1911 book).

I actually made one using Microsoft Access for keeping track of all our Air packs and bottles for them. You can put whatever fields you want in it, and make your own database. I looked at the review briefly today and they seemed to be high speed versions of what I made for our air packs.
Hawk, John, if ya want I can play with access and see what I can come up with to try that.

A nice review.
I wonder if any of these programs will run under Windows Vista?

Thanks for the review, makes it easier on all of us to make an informed choice on a program to use. I have downloaded the GunSafe program but have not installed, simply because I had not seen or heard anything about it until I saw this forum here.
I spend most of my time over on TFL and had asked about just this topic, with very few answers. I did however see a link to the GunSafe site, but again, when asked if anyone was using it, there were few answers. Obviously being a free program or shareware as they call it, made the decision to download it a lot easier than say buying 2 or 3 others to try. And one must give credit to the guy who wrote it up and lets us use it for free. You don't see that much any more. Again, thanks for the review of these programs. Now I just need to decide which one to use. |

Hey, gimme a break. I just upgraded to XP (from Windoze 98) last September, you now want me to change again? Good Lord, I am a 1911 lover, which means I do not get thrilled with new things. I'll probably upgrade to Vista, when the next version comes out. By then all Vista bugs must be ironed out, LoRL. ![]() |

Way to go. This kind of review is long over due. I think you are slightly mistaken though as I believe NM Gun Collector software is the best software for collectors! ![]() Anyway, I strive to continually improve it and am gearing up for a new release that will hopefully move it up in your rankings! I also intend to improve on my free on-line gun identification and values database. Sincerely, Clay Pryor nmCollector.net |
