Please note that the forums in this category are to be used to ask questions or to show us pistols from these manufacturers. They can also be used to ask questions about the parts of a particular pistol from one of these manufacturers, as long as the question relates to the original parts.
If you want to ask questions about after-market parts, these questions should go in the "Parts Bin" forums, not in these forums. Messages with questions for after-market parts, magazines, holsters, conversion kits, ammo etc. will be moved to the proper forum and a warning will be issued. |

hope this helps...
Have you tried this site?
http://www.sightm1911.com/index.htm It has some history, but may not have the detail you want. I'll try and do some more checking offline. I thought about offering a research service at one time because I have .45 Auto articles from American Rifleman since 1952. I have access to some Guns and Ammo magazines also. I could e-mail all of the article titles if anyone is interested. If copies of the articles are desired, charges would be minimal (why profit from friends)? |

According to Jerry Kuhnhausen's "The Colt .45 Automatic" Vol. 1, the .45 caliber National Match was introduced in 1933 and the Gold Cup National Match was introduced in 1957.
I had a 1969 National Match with the slotted trigger with overtravel stop, the Eliason adjustable sights, the 14 lb. spring, the tightened slide, throated and polished barrel, solid bushing and double diamond cocobolo medallion grips. I never saw one with the words "Gold Cup" on it til the series '70 came out with the fingered bushing. My 1969 did have the words "National Match" on the slide. Regards, Rabbi
