Please note that the forums in this category are to be used to ask questions or to show us pistols from these manufacturers. They can also be used to ask questions about the parts of a particular pistol from one of these manufacturers, as long as the question relates to the original parts.

  • If your pistol malfunctions and you want to ask for help on how to troubleshoot it, post your question in the "Gunsmithing and Refinishing" forum, not in this one.
  • If you want to ask questions about after-market parts, these questions should go in the "Parts - Grips" forum, not in the manufacturers forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about after-market magazines, these questions should go in the "Magazines" forum, not in these forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about holsters, those questions should go in the "Holsters" forum, not in these forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about conversion kits, those questions should go in the "Conversion Kits" forum, not these forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about which ammo to use with your pistol, those questions should be posted in the "Ammo" forum, not these forums.

Messages with questions for after-market parts, magazines, holsters, conversion kits, ammo etc. will be moved to the proper forum and a warning will be issued.

Does any one have any issues with there finish? I'm looking for feedback before I get a 1911 refinished. Thanks.

Can't call it an issue but it will wear (holster) if that is our consideration. If you want durability go hard chrome or black diamond. I have pistols with different finishes and the wear is character to some and an eyesore to others. Anthony

The only issue with the Armor Tuff or any spray on finish for that matter is eventually it will start to wear off on the areas that make the most contact with your holster. Which in most cases is right around the muzzle area. It is not a question of will it start to wear off but when will it start to wear off and that depends on the type of holster you use and how many times you are drawing and reholstering your gun. I have had my CQB for several years and it is just starting to show wear in the muzzle area. The good news is that even though the coloring may be gone, the Armor Tuff is still protecting the steel from rust and corrosion. Absolutely no issues with that.

The hard chrome and Diamond Black finishes definitely will wear better but they are also more expensive to apply. The spray on finishes are a good compromise between cost and durability. Plus you can choose from several colors and if you get tired of the color you can always change it if and when you decide to refinish the gun again. Any finish that still protects the gun even when it appears to be worn off is a good finish... and Armor Tuff does that.

What gunslingers stated is spot on. I can only give an example of how my CQB's finish is wearing. I'm a LEO and I have carried my Wilson for approximately 5 years in a Safariland 070 holster as well as several different kinds of concealment type of holsters. I can't count the number of times the pistol has been drawn and reholstered on duty as well as off (I'm an avid shooter).
The pistol's finish has worn around the muzzle edges. The pistol has been wet, dirty, bumped, cleaned a zillion times, rolled on and still looks good! I am pleased!
