Silversport, I wouldn't try to cover for the gun. It needs to stand on its own. That gun should be able to shoot after 1000 rounds of not cleaning. All it should need is a little lube before shooting and it should go. Having a dirty gun after a few hundred rounds is no excuse for ftf's or fte's. And the break in thing, guns don't need a break in if they are set up right, even if they happen to be 1911's. I think that is general misnomer about the 1911. Other guns shoot just fine right out of the box, but the 1911 for some reason has been given this immunity from critisim for not working right, and I don't know where it has come from. Anyway, I am glad you are enthusiastic about your sig 1911. I own one too. |

that's fine as your opinion...I have been shooting pistols for over 25 years...EVERY pistol I have ever owned needed a break in time...
Colt Diamondback .38Special (pre owned) needed to be repaired after shooting due to prior owner neglect in using a "pistol smith" Colt Python .38 Special/.357 Magnumbrand new...locked up on shot number 5, needed to go to Colt authorized repair shop for repair. Beretta 84 new .380ACP...not one hiccup I can recall. SiG P226 9MM...new...minor hiccups through first 500 SiG P228 9MM...new...minor hiccups through the first 500 SiG P220 .45ACP...new...some failures to feed and extract...smooth after the 1st 500 SiG P239 9MM...new...some failures to feed went to factory for polishing of throat and barrel, returned perfect. SiG P232 .380ACP...new...no hiccups I recall. SiG P226 357SiG...new...some minor hiccups in the 1st 500...smooth after that. SiG P220ST...new...no hiccups in the 1st 100 rounds but sold off. GLOCK 19 9MM...new...hiccups had to go back to factory and returned perfect. GLOCK 21 .45ACP...new...near perfect out of the box. GLOCK 27 40 S&W...new...near perfect out of the box...GLOCK 357 "AUTO" barrel for 357SiG rounds...no hiccups I recall. Seecamp LWS .32ACP...new...some failures to feed initially, no problems after break in. Kimber Custom II...some failures to feed and extract reported from previous owner after he bought it new...I bought pistol...no problems after break in...hmmm. Springfield Armory Mil-Spec...new...some failures to feed and extract...no problems after break in. Smith & Wesson 37? Bodyguard...bought used...no problems. Smith & Wesson 642-2 Airweight Centennial...new...bent firing pin from the factory, repaired and no problems after that... Other pistols and shotguns but no problems I can recall other than those mentioned right now... My point with my range report is that when you can VISUALLY see all the carbon build up, how can you expect the pistol to run properly??? I don't expect it to...and I don't make excuses for my guns...I need them to protect life and property, if it fails me it goes, simple as that...should this continue after it is properly broken in, I would have it repaired or sell it off... Some pistols have been trouble free, some not...I would agree that a pistol needs to work 100%, 100% of the time...I certainly need this but you need to temper that with proper care and handling...it seemed to me that the problems I had increased as the pistol fouled with carbon...when I spritzed it with lube/cleaner, it began to run again until it fouled further...I don't think that is an excuse, I think ANY mechanical device would act in a similar manner given the conditions...your mileage may vary! Bill

Silversport
They (1911's and others) need to be tammed (breaking in) Some run 100% but to be smooth they have to get set (frame to the slide) and the the burnishing of the barrel and the sear to the hammer. That is my experience - like yours with ALL my 1911's The new Sig XO is some sort a ACCURATE. It does not like blazer brass!!! That is all they had at the range today. I have several FTF's - looked like the case rim was having trouble getting set under the extractor claw. The last outing it ran flawless with Remington UMC ammo. I am getting older and harder to hold the POA, and the eyes as well, hard to see past 15 yards or so. I took 4 pistols Sig XO - TRP Operator - Bul M5 and RIA widebody. best results Sig- Bul M5 - RIA widebody (tied for second) TRP Operator - oh well maybe another day!! I am really impressed with the Sig GSR so far. For under $700.00 - hand held the first 5 rounds were dead center on the one inch orange dot. (the last three of the mag--- well --- you know how it goes sometimes) |
